From Pat Nunnally:
I hope your spring has been pleasant, or at least that you have HAD spring in your part of the country/world! We are proud to offer Issue 6 of Open Rivers, on “Provocations.” Find it at http://openrivers.umn.edu.
For those of us in higher education, there can sometimes be a challenge defining what we do, especially with regard to rivers. We study them; we teach about them; we investigate social and physical conditions that affect them. But a “summing up” term can be hard to come up with. Maybe “provocation” will work, in the general sense that we instigate new ways of thinking and knowing and coming to terms with the waters in our lives. We think that the featured articles in this issue will certainly provoke reflection and discussion!
In addition we have our regular “column” inclusions, on teaching and practice, new materials for review, primary sources for continued inquiry, distinct geographical ranges and deliberately divergent points of view.
We hope you enjoy the issue; please do feel free to share it. We welcome your comments, ideas, and suggestions.
