MANY people came to Mill City Museum on December 5, 2015 to celebrate place and original language. It was fun and heartwarming and nourishing. Photos will be posted before long. And a sample of the raw video will be posted, too.
Wopida Tanka for all those who found the time in their week-end to celebrate this place and the language of this place at Feast of Words at Mill City Museum on Saturday! Special thanks to Healing Place Collaborative partners who came…more thanks to Dakota Language Society, Ethan Neerdaels and Sisoka Duta and their terrific work educating, celebrating and sharing the Dakota language and WOZAPI! David Stevens of Mill City is a miracle, Jewell Arcoren knows how to cook a mean buffalo soup, Jill Yohe brought crayons and cards that kept both kids and adults engaged! And provided us with some terrific “evaluations.” Dakota Hoska and Lisa were also invaluable from MIA and from DLS. It was grand seeing so much participation and JOY in hearing and saying Dakota words! There were three other events going on at Mill City, which meant that lots of folks were exposed to a festive FEAST OF WORDS!!!!
A few folks than the 50 limit participated in the 11 a.m seating and well over the 50 limit attended the 1:30 seating. It was standing room only! We had to drag out extra chairs and set chairs up a bit of a level up for folks who couldn’t find room where we were set up.
The feedback we’re receiving is overwhelmingly positive. One person who wrote on a coloring card said, “I have a new love for Dakota ways and Dakota language.”
Healing PLACE at work. Healing at the teaching place of St. Anthony Falls! Grand way to spend a day.
We even had one observer (not participating but spending a bit of time on her way to other events) asked about the possibility of doing Feast of Words for her family reunion! my. oh. my!
Remember Healing Place Collaborative has a Facebook page. Some photos have been posted there already.
