Kate sent this to all partners, but thought it should be shared here, too:
I was talking to Piero the other day about the creation of this table and it has been a great learning journey in terms of understanding so I imagine will continue to serve this role. He was saying how cottonwood (It’s my favorite tree, the first one who said “look at me and know who I am” when I’d walk along the lakeshore path in Madison…way before I understood “this or that” way of tree identification in scientific processes. But it had these beautiful heart-shaped leaves that dance in the wind and turn such a golden in the fall to go against the blue sky, its innate love of water, and its Entish groovy bark.) is a trouble to work with in terms of structural creation…and a weed tree as far as economic foresters are concerned (though clearly not so in terms of its relationship to water/m’ni/stars/story of Place) which is reflected now in the hard time its having re-establishing itself, which also has to do with river flow, flood-plain, seeding dynamics. All four of the woods have many stories though beyond this and I can see how the table will start relating to and calling to a connection with Place. Just wanted to say congrats and way cool and washte! Appreciation to all!
