Čhaŋte – Healing Place Events/Activities/Programs available for your event, classroom, organization.
We will be adding information about each of the ‘events’ that Healing Place offers. An organization, agency, school, event planner can schedule any one of the ‘events’ or the package, which is called Čhaŋte, which means heart in the Dakota language. We will provide the table, bar, stencils, and teacher/facilitators. Considering your needs we can bring one event/program or the entire package (Čhaŋte). Cost will depend on your needs (a one hour program, or an all day program, or a series) and can be negotiated. A rate card from which to start our customization and negotiation will be posted here before long.
To get us started here are some preliminary descriptions of each:
Čhokáta Nážiŋ – The Dakota Language Table is a living and traveling gathering space for the Dakota language and culture to be strengthened through a deeper understanding of the interdependent relationships of the land, language and lifeways to the health and wellbeing of people that call Mnísota Makhóčhe (Minnesota) home. The sculptural table was produced from a collaboration between Dakota language educator/activists (Jewell Arcoren and Ethan Neerdaels) and University of Minnesota artists, (Rebecca Krinke, Pierro Protti, and Alexandra Olson). Activities for all ages are available. This event includes teachings about the shape and height and materials of the table and the process of creating this art piece.
Feast of Words – Minnesota. Where did this state name come from? The Dakota language is the first language of Minnesota, yet few Minnesotans know the meaning of the name of their state. Feast of Words is a family event centered on this place we all call home, Mnísota (Minnesota). Participants learn about indigenous place names throughout the state, try local indigenous foods, learn to prepare wóžapi, a traditional Dakota berry pudding, and are immersed in the Dakota language. Group activities make it fun for all ages. This program is a collaboration between Healing Place and Dakhóta Iápi Okhódakičhiye.
Mniówe – A place for getting water (mniówe) is the indigenized adaptation of the well-regarded “Water Bar.” Learn about indigenous philosophies, relationships and practices relating to Mní (water) that have allowed Dakota people to thrive in this area for millennia. Sample water from a variety of sources in Mnísota; and engage in conversations about the ways in which we use and interact with water in our daily lives; often without thinking about where our water comes from. This program is a collaboration between Water Bar, Healing Place, and Dakhóta Iápi Okhódakičhiye
Dakhóta Wordscapes – An installation of Minnesota’s original language upon the landscape to give guests a deeper connection to the place we all call home; Mnisota, the land where the water reflects the sky. This installation features large-scaled Dakota words stenciled into the sidewalks with Dakota speakers nearby to engage in conversations about affinity and relatedness to Dakota homeland (Minnesota).
